Big Fat Cat

1) 총평 (완독 소감 + 간단한 원서 리뷰 포함)

어쩌다보니 Big Fat Cat을 하루만에 7권 다 읽었어요.
고양이를 키우는 입장에서(저희집 고양이는 Small Fat Cat이에요. 덩치는 작은데 뱃살이 출렁출렁)
처음에는 그냥 고양이가 귀엽고 재밌었는데 나중에는 뭐야 이 민폐덩어리는! 싶고,
모든 걸 다 버리고 고양이를 선택하는 에드를 보면서 애가 미쳤나;; 싶고 그랬는데
마지막에 에드가 왜 그렇게 민폐 고양이를 찾아 헤맸는지 알게 되면서 좀 감동적이었어요.

제목이 Big Fat Cat일 뿐이지 에드라는 사람의 인생 이야기네요.
자신의 작은 가게에서 엄마의 레시피로 파이를 만들던 에드는
하루아침에 모든 것을 잃고 밑바닥까지 내려가게 되지만,
홈레스들의 도움으로 일어나 다시 시작하면서 인생의 새로운 가치를 발견하게 돼요.

저는 좀 냉소적인 사람이라 홈레스들 볼 때면 일을 해서 돈을 벌지 왜 저러고 사나 싶었는데
멀쩡하게 돈 벌며 살던 에드가 모든 걸 다 잃고 길바닥에 내몰린 상황을 보면서
내가 에드였다면 다시 시작할 수 있을까라는 생각이 들더라구요.
제가 너무 편하고 행복하게 살아와서 잘 몰랐나봐요.

블루베리 맛이든 머스타드 맛이든 사람은 제각각 다른 삶을 살고 있고,
빅팻캣이 에드를 베이커로 만든 것처럼,
나에게 나의 삶의 의미를 부여해주는 누군가가 있다면 인생은 결국 달콤하다.
