Raskolnikov는 처음으로 술집을 들어가서 술을 마십니다.

술을 마시면서 누군가가 자신에게 말을 걸고 싶어하는 것을 느낍니다.

There are chance meetings with strangers that interest us from the first moment, before a word is spoken. Such was the impression made on Raskolnikov by the person sitting a little distance from him, who looked like a retired clerk. 

The young man often recalled this impression afterwards, and even ascribed it to presentiment. He looked repeatedly at the clerk, partly no doubt because the latter was staring persistently at him, obviously anxious to enter into conversation. 

At the other persons in the room, including the tavern-keeper, the clerk looked as though he were used to their company, and weary of it, showing a shade of condescending contempt for them as persons of station and culture inferior to his own, with whom it would be useless for him to converse. 

He was a man over fifty, bald and grizzled, of medium height, and stoutly built. His face, bloated from continual drinking, was of a yellow, even greenish, tinge, with swollen eyelids out of which keen reddish eyes gleamed like little chinks. 

But there was something very strange in him; there was a light in his eyes as though of intense feeling—perhaps there were even thought and intelligence, but at the same time there was a gleam of something like madness. 

He was wearing an old and hopelessly ragged black dress coat, with all its buttons missing except one, and that one he had buttoned, evidently clinging to this last trace of respectability. A crumpled shirt front, covered with spots and stains, protruded from his canvas waistcoat. 

Like a clerk, he wore no beard, nor moustache, but had been so long unshaven that his chin looked like a stiff greyish brush. And there was something respectable and like an official about his manner too. 

But he was restless; he ruffled up his hair and from time to time let his head drop into his hands dejectedly resting his ragged elbows on the stained and sticky table. At last he looked straight at Raskolnikov, and said loudly and resolutely:

묘사가 매우 디테일하고 치밀합니다.

그래서 이책은 정신차리고 봐야합니다.

읽다가 어느순간 정신이 아득해집니다.

물론 전날 술을 많이 마시고 잠을 제대로 못자서 이기도 하지만

문장이 길고 다채로운 어휘들이 많아서 한곳에 집착을 해버리면

앞부분이 기억속에서 사라져서 전체문장 해석이 힘들어지고

길을 잃어 버립니다.

그렇다고 절대 어려운건 아닙니다.

그리고 제가 실력이 좋은건 더더욱 never, ever 아닙니다.

맑은 정신에 차분히 그리고 신속하게 눈으로 읽어나가고

부족한 부분은 위에서 처럼 끊은 적당한 길이의 문단기준으로

다시 한번 더 세밀히 읽으며 채우기를 하면 됩니다.

처음 한동안은 이러한 것에 적응을 해 나가면서

어려움을 겪겠지만 회피해서는 안되고 오히려

더 천천히 세세하게 읽으며 돌파해야 할듯 합니다.
