우선 settle for less 라는 의미는
사랑에 관해서는 사랑을 받을만 한데 못받는데도 불구하고 결혼하거나 사귀는 것을 말할 수 있을 것이고
인생이야기에서는 자신의 가치보다 낮게 대우 받거나 자신의 가치는 사실 더 높다 라는 뜻이군요.

to underestimate the value of that person or thing
그러니까 쉽게 말해 업신여기거나 가볍게 본다는 뜻 정도 이군요^^
제목과도 상통합니다.
