1) 총평 (완독 소감 + 간단한 원서 리뷰 포함)
멋진 해변가의 집에서 부모님의 사랑을 듬뿍 받으며 자라던 제임스. 늘 재미있는 책과
장난감, 그리고 함께 어울려 놀 친구들이 많아 행복한 나날을 보냈었죠. 그러던 어느날
부모님이 갑자기 끔찍한 사고로 돌아가시면서 제임스의 삶은 완전히 끔찍하게 바뀌었
습니다. 제임스가 살던 집은 팔리고 스폰지, 스파이커 두 친척 아줌마와 영국의 고지대
에 위치한 고성같은 집에서 살게 되었습니다. 학대를 받으면서요. 제임스의 마음은 늘
슬픔과 외로움으로 가득 차 불행한 나날을 보내고 있는데 한 특이한 인물을 만나면서
변화가 시작됩니다. 이 인물은 제임스에게 초록빛깔의 물질들을 주면서 물에 타서 거품
이 일어나면 한번에 삼키라고 일러줍니다. 그러면 인생이 바뀐다고요. 심술굿고 욕심
사나운 아줌마들에게 들킬세라 조심히 부억으로 가던 제임스.. 그만 넘어지고 초록 물
질들은 엎어져 여기저기 흩어져 흡수되어 버립니다.
