1) 총평 (완독 소감 + 간단한 원서 리뷰 포함)
이번권은 살짝 소오름 돋는 결말이다. (물론 어른인 내 입장에서는 아니고 아이가 본다면 그럴꺼 같다는 이야기.. ^^)
맥스의 생일날 비가 와서 딱히 놀거리가 없어서 친구 몇몇과 동생(왼손잡이라서 레프티라고 부른다.)과 함께 다락방에 올라간다.
우연히 비밀의 문의 발견하고 열어보니 처음보는 거울이 있다.
그런데 이 거울에 전구를 켜자 갑자기 맥스가 안 보인다. 사라진 것이다.
불을 켜면 사라졌다가, 불을 끄면 다시 보이는 신기한 마법의 거울~
그런데 오랜 시간동안 사라진 상태로 있으면 좀 이상한 기분이 든다.
점점 소리도 작아지고 붕 뜨는 느낌이 들고 왠지 다른 사람들과 멀어지는 느낌이 들어서 맥스는 거울이 위험하다고 판단하고 손대지 말자고 하지만
친구들은 누가 더 오래 투명인간으로 버티는지 내기를 하느라고 정신이 없고..
장난치면서 오래 버틴 레프티가 어딘가 달라졌다고는 느끼지만 맥스는 정확히 뭐가 바뀐건지 알아차리지는 못 한다.
그러다 친구들도 비슷한 경험을 하고는 돌아오는데 또 이상하다. 게다가 한명은 머리 스타일이 좌우가 바뀐거 같다.
(이쯤되니.. 거울이라는 공포영화가 살짝 생각나더라.)
하여간 맥스는 거울에 갇힐뻔한 위기에 쳐했을때 레프티가 던진 공이 거울을 깨면서 친구들이 정상으로 돌아온다.
레프티와 공놀이 하면서 끝나는 결말이 살짝 소름돋게 할거 같다. (물론 성인이나 고학년이 읽는다면 어찌 흘러갈지 구체적으로 보이겠지만.. ^^)
아이들용이니 이런 반전 결말 훌륭하지 않은가?
-난 참 무서운 책과 영화를 잘 보지 못 하는 사람이다. 사실 호러물 뿐만 아니라 영화는 스릴러도 못 본다.
그런데 이 책을 괜찮다. (설마.. 영어라서 덜 몰입이 되는 걸까?)
어린이용 호러라서 누가 죽거나 큰 사고가 벌어지지는 않는다. 물론 여기서는 불쌍한 레프티는 거울 속에 갇힌것으로 끝났지만 살인 장면이 자세히 묘사되는 씬도 없고 그냥 소오~~름이 조금 돋는 정도이다.
(물론 처음엔 한장한장 넘길때 책에 나오지도 않는 엄청 큰일이 상상하며 읽어서 긴장하면서 읽었지만 말이다. ^^)
