1) 총평 (완독 소감 + 간단한 원서 리뷰 포함)
2000년 뉴베리 메달;
어려서 엄마가 돌아가신 후 시설과 위탁가정을 떠돌다 더이상 안되겠다 판단한 주인공이 아버지를 찾아 서부로 떠나면서 생기는 에피소드들, 그리고 드디어 만난 아버지는 아버지가 아닌데...ㅋ 짐짓 어른같은 면모를 보이지만 그것이 실은 냉정한 현실에서 살아남기 위해 체득한 것들이라 더 안쓰러웠던 주인공;;
중간중간 어떤 상황이 닥칠때마다 자기의 어록을 인용하면서 조심 또 조심 하는데 재밌어서 인용할께요~
제목부터 거창하죠?
Bud Caldwell's Rules and Things for Having a Funner Life and Making a Better Liar Out of Yourself.
No. 3 ;
If you got to tell a lie, make sure it's simple and easy to remember.
No. 118 ;
You have to give adults something that they think they can use to hurt you by taking it away.
That way they might not take something away that you really to want.
Unless they're crazy or real stupid they won't take everything because if they did they wouldn't have anything to hold over your head to hurt you with later.
No. 328 ;
When you make up your mind to do something, hurry up and do it, if you wait you might talk yourself out of what you wanted in the first.
No. 83 ;
If a adult tells you not to worry, and you weren't worried before, you better hurry up and start 'cause you're already running late.
No. 16 ;
If a grown-up ever starts a sentence by saying "Haven't you heard," get ready, 'cause what's about to come out of their mouth is gonna drop you headfirst into a boiling tragedy.
No. 87
When a adult tells you they need your help with a problem get ready to be tricked-most times this means they just want you to go fetch something for them.
No. 29
When you wake up and don't know for sure where you're at and there's a bunch of people standing around you, It's best to pretend you're still asleep until you can figure out what's going on and what you should do.
No. 8
Whenever a adult tells you to listen carefully and talks to you in a real calm voice, do not listen, run as fast as you can because something real terrible is just around the corner. Especially if the cops are chasing you.
No. 63
Never, ever say something bad about someone you don't know-especially when you're around a bunch of strangers. You never can tell who might e kin to that person or who might be a lip-flapping, big-mouth spy.
No. 28
Gone = dead!
No. 39
The older you get, the worse something has to be to make you cry.
