표지 그림이 아주 재미있습니다.

마빈의 학교는 특별한 날이 있는데 오늘은 “hole day”라고 낡아서 구멍 뚫린 옷을 입고 등교하는 날입니다. 모든 반 아이들, 심지어 교장선생님까지 구멍 뚫린 옷을 입고 등교합니다. 그런데 갑자기 대통령이 방문한다고 합니다. 노스 선생님은 당황하면서도 아이들에게 질문을 준비하게 합니다. 이윽고 대통령이 도착하고 그때 마빈은 굉장히 큰 수를 더하는 문제를 풀고 있다가 대통령을 맞이합니다. 대통령의 질문에 잘 대답해서 칭찬을 받습니다. 이제 앞자리에 앉은 아이들부터 차례로 대통령께 질문하는데, 갑자기 앞의 두 명이 마빈이 준비한 질문을 합니다. 당황하는 마빈!!! 게다가 대통령은 마빈의 질문을 기대한다고 하는데...

우리와 사뭇 다른 교실 풍경입니다. 아이들을 통한 대통령의 노림수가 있다고도 느껴지지만, 시민의식 등을 통한 주인의식을 잘 이끌어내고 있네요.
