매직트리하우스 8권까지 읽고 9권을 이어 읽을까 앞서 읽은 부분 표현을 다시 봐볼까 하다가..
가볍게라도 표현을 확인 하는 게 나을 거 같아서.. 복습을 택했습니다!
미션완료 글을 쓰면서 적었던 표현을 중심으로
킨들 vocabulary builder 중에서 제일 모르겠다 싶은 단어 위주만 몇개 다시 보고
재정리하는데도 은근 시간이 오래걸리네요~
그래도 holes를 읽으면서 봤던 표현을 복습하면서 발견하게 되니까..
반갑기도 하면서, 읽었어도(재독이었음에도;) 그냥 지나치는 표현이 많다는 생각이 들었어요 ^^
MTH1
The Pteranodan coasted down to the ground
: The creature coasted to a stop.
; cf “Coast clear”
(The coast is clear: it is safe for you to do sth w/o being seen or caught)
The wind picked up.
The Tyrannosaurus was chomping the air.
(chomp: bite sth noisily)
They tumbled into the books/the tree house.
All the Anatosauruses were bellowing at him.
; A deep, bellowing sound.
(bellow: make a loud and deep noise)
The Pteranodan steadied himself, then rose into the sky
(steady oneself: control one’s voice or expression)
MTH2
She tiptoed away as
quietly as a mouse.
Crickets were chirping.
“Cut it out!”
(stop talking or doing sth)
Annie was shining her flashlight on the books scattered about.
A huge castle loomed out of fog.
(loom out of: appear to
come out of or penetrate sth)
A helmet alone could weigh up to forty pounds.
She pushed the door open.
It fell into a dirty puddle on the floor, sputtered, and went out.
: SPLASH! "Hi! I'm here!" Annie
sputtered. Jack could hear her
nearby.
"Get down. Or I'll wipe
you out!"
The flashlight barely lit the stone walls.
He shook the light.
Were the batteries running down?
: "I think our light's dying!"
: The light got
dimmer and dimmer.
Jack inched down, bit by bit.
Until he was hanging out the door, clinging to the ledge.
Water filled Jack’s nose and covered his head.
He coughed and flailed his arms.
(flail: move arms and legs
about in an uncontrolled way)
Everything had been swallowed up by the thick, soupy darkness.
The black horse cantered beside the moonlit water of the moat
(When a horse canters, it moves at a speed that is
slower than a gallop but faster than a trot)
The knight brought his horse to a stop.
He dismounted and helped Annie down.
He saw the knight's armor gleaming on the top of a hill beyond the castle.
: He was hoping to see the knight’s armor gleam again in the distance.
Jack heard Annie fumble in the darkness.
(fumble: try to hold, move, or find sth using hands in a way that is not
skillful or graceful)
MTH3
Late-morning sunlight lit the woods.
It was almost time for lunch.
Jack tiptoed over to a clump of bushes.
He pushed aside a small branch.
“Hello? Anybody there?”
At the end of the parade was a sleek black cat.
: He was very sleek and dark. With bright yellow eyes.
: Near the base was the sleek black cat.
(sleek fur or hair: smooth and shiny/ sleek limousine: fashionable and attractive in design)
A black cat was perched on a branch.
: The tree house was perched on the top of a palm tree.
(perch on/ be perched on: sit on sth that is narrow or small, and usually high, esp. for a short time)
She sure knew how to get to him.
It swooshed toward them!
: [MTH4] The parrot swooshed into the tree house.
(swoosh: v. move quickly through air or water w/ a smooth gentle sound)
The cat started to slink away.
(slink: go somewhere slowly and quietly so that people will not notice you)
Annie took Jack by the arm.
“Turn your head a little.”
Jack tipped his head to one side
Something was shining on the floor.
He tipped his head a bit more.
A letter came into focus.
Jack felt a whoosh of cold air
(a whoosh of air or water: a sudden rush of it)
a patch of green
a wave of terror

MTH4
rain coats and boots/ rain gear/ rain stuff
Jack felt hot sunlight streaming into the tree house.
He shielded his eyes against the sun.
Annie and Jack were hauled onto the deck.

Jack and Annie were tossed into the rowboat.
: The rowboat tossed from side to side.
: He was
tossed this way and that.

it at the two pirates.
Salty spray stung Jack's eyes. He felt seasick.
A shaft of gray light came through a small round window.
(a shaft of light: a beam of light/ passage; handle; engine part; arrow)
Jack saw a patch of wood.
Big, fat raindrops
She was halfway up the tree house ladder.
Jack took one last look at the treasure chest.
They were back in Frog Creek.
The rain was softer.
The wind was gentler.
The air was sweeter.
I placed
a spell on the tree house.
The sun shined through the wood.
All the wet leaves sparkled.
낭독을 하면 놓치는 표현이 참 많은 것 같은데 복습도 좋은 방법인것 같네요ㅎㅎ
