모비딕이 뭔가 했더니 흰 고래의 이름이었음. 어느나라 말인지 모르겠지만..

여튼 주인공은 뱃사람..바다를 사랑하는 젊은이이다.

그는 고래잡이를 하며 넓은 세상을 구경하고 싶어한다.

고래잡이는 돈도 많이 벌수 없고 가족과도 떨어져 몇년을 배에서 보내야 하고 일도 고된 힘든 직업이다.

마침내 고래잡이 배에 지원한 주인공...

그 배의 선장은 고래잡이 경력이 아주 풍부한 사람이었지만

모비딕에게 한쪽 다리를 잃고 반쯤 미친 인간이었다.

그의 인생의 목적은 오직 모비딕을 잡아서 복수하는것....

미친 선장이 이끄는 배에서 험난한 고래잡이의 인생이 시작되는데..
