40) I Survived the Great Chicago Fire, 1871

 

1871년 시카고 대화재를 배경으로 한 소설입니다. 11살 오스카는 미네소타 농장을 팔고 엄마와 함께 시카고로 이사하게 됩니다. 2년전 미네소타에 불어닥친 눈보라로 아빠를 잃은 오스카는 화가인 머로우씨가 재혼하려는 엄마가 못마땅합니다. 설상가상으로 시카고 기차역에 도착하자마자 가지고간 캐리어 3개를 도둑맞게 되고 시카고 대화재와 맞닥뜨리게 되는데요...한 가족의 헛간에서 불이 번지기 시작하여 자그마치 3일이나 지속되어 수많은 피해를 일으킨 시카고 화재속에서 사랑과 우정을 그린 따뜻한 소설이네요..
